{"id":21043,"date":"2026-04-29T13:10:52","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T11:10:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bio4dreams.com\/?p=21043"},"modified":"2026-04-29T13:10:53","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T11:10:53","slug":"nanophoenix-guard-project-pr-fesr-date-rape-drugs-drink-spiking-beverages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bio4dreams.com\/en\/nanophoenix-guard-project-pr-fesr-date-rape-drugs-drink-spiking-beverages\/","title":{"rendered":"NanoPhoenix to develop a device against date rape drugs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bio4dreams.com\/en\/nanophoenix-nanotechnologies-lifesciences-diagnostic-therapeutic-applications\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"11123\"><strong>NanoPhoenix<\/strong><\/a> will develop a device to detect possible drugs dissolved in drinks as part of the <strong>GUARD \u2013 Gadget for Urgent Analysis of Rape Drugs project<\/strong>, together with the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipd.it\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University of Padua<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iom.cnr.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNR-IOM<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">GUARD: a project to tackle drink spiking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>GUARD is a project aimed at developing a device to counter the phenomenon of <strong>drink spiking<\/strong>, namely the addition of psychoactive substances to a drink without the person\u2019s knowledge, often taking advantage of a moment of distraction and frequently with the intent to commit sexual assault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These substances, commonly known as date rape drugs, include, for example, GHB, ketamine, and benzodiazepines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal of GUARD is therefore to develop a portable, pen-like device capable of detecting these substances in a simple and accurate way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project will be carried out in Trieste starting in April 2026 and is supported by the <strong>PR FESR 2021\u20132027<\/strong> with funding of approximately <strong>\u20ac95,000<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">NanoPhoenix and the anti-drink spiking device<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to its expertise in microfluidics, electrochemical sensing, advanced materials, and miniaturized electronics, NanoPhoenix \u2014 a startup affiliated with and incubated by Bio4Dreams \u2014 has been awarded the development of the device, in a pathway that will extend from prototyping to field validation and subsequent industrialization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Supporting the startup will also be the <strong>University of Padua<\/strong>, for the analytical characterization of beverage matrices, and the Institute of Materials Workshop of the CNR (<strong>CNR-IOM<\/strong>), for characterization activities and independent testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After <strong>AQUADETECT<\/strong>, the European project dedicated to the development of advanced <strong>optical sensors<\/strong> for <strong>monitoring aquatic environments<\/strong>, the award of GUARD confirms that NanoPhoenix\u2019s technology and expertise are scalable and applicable across very different contexts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udcd7 Learn more about <strong>NanoPhoenix <\/strong>and the other companies in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bio4dreams.com\/en\/portfolio\/\" type=\"page\" id=\"12902\">our portfolio<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As part of the GUARD project, NanoPhoenix will develop a portable device to detect the possible presence of drugs in drinks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":21040,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1313],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-21043","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-portfolio"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
