Tra questi, il <strong>glutammato<\/strong> \u00e8 il pi\u00f9 comune dell\u2019organismo ed \u00e8 coinvolto in processi basilari quali la sintesi delle proteine essenziali, la memoria e l\u2018apprendimento.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nello specifico, il glutammato \u00e8 un <strong>neurotrasmettitore con funzione eccitatoria<\/strong>: quando rilasciato da un neurone (presinaptico), attiva una serie di reazioni nel successivo (neurone postsinaptico).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Il fenomeno dell\u2019eccitotossicit\u00e0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In situazioni particolari \u00e8 possibile che si verifichi un rilascio di glutammato pi\u00f9 alto del normale da parte dei neuroni presinaptici. In questo caso il neurotrasmettitore stimola sia i neuroni successivi (postsinaptici) sia quelli da cui \u00e8 stato rilasciato (presinaptici) attraverso l\u2019interazione con specifici recettori (NMDA). Ci\u00f2 induce un ulteriore rilascio di glutammato.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Si innesca quindi un circolo vizioso che porta alla formazione di <strong>accumuli del neurotrasmettitore che iperstimolano i neuroni fino a causarne la morte<\/strong>. Questo fenomeno \u00e8 chiamato <strong>eccitotossicit\u00e0<\/strong> ed \u00e8 alla base di alcune patologie neurodegenerative quali l\u2019epilessia o l\u2019Alzheimer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fermare questo processo significherebbe rallentare il decorso di queste malattie. Tuttavia, il problema sta nel riuscire a evitare l\u2019accumulo di glutammato senza bloccarne completamente il rilascio, indispensabile per le normali attivit\u00e0 di comunicazione tra neuroni. Servirebbe una soluzione selettiva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mettere un freno alle malattie neurodegenerative<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In questa direzione sta lavorando la startup milanese Peptitech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fondata nel 2019 e specializzata in farmacologia del sistema nervoso, la realt\u00e0 sta sviluppando un sistema per <strong>arrestare l\u2019eccitotossicit\u00e0 senza interferire con le normali attivit\u00e0 di comunicazione tra neuroni <\/strong>basate sul glutammato.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Infatti, i ricercatori hanno sviluppato <strong>due peptidi<\/strong> (piccole proteine) <strong>capaci di inibire specificamente i recettori NMDA sui neuroni presinaptici<\/strong>, ovvero i primi della catena che rilasciano glutammato.
