NERD project kicks off, a cross-border initiative for precision oncology
On April 17, 2026, at the Chiostro di Sant’Abbondio of the University of Insubria in Como, NERD – Next Generation Diagnostics, a cross-border project funded under the Interreg Italy–Switzerland Programme, officially kicked off.

NERD was created to strengthen the competitiveness of precision oncology between Lombardy and Canton Ticino, addressing a concrete challenge: the development of qualified skills and the transfer of innovative molecular methodologies to support research and innovation.
The project is led by Bio4Dreams, which acts as the lead partner of the consortium, coordinating activities and connecting academic and industrial partners. Within this framework, Bio4Dreams contributes its experience in research valorization, technology transfer, and the development of innovation-driven pathways in the Life Sciences.
Alongside Bio4Dreams, the project involves the University of Insubria, the University of Milano-Bicocca, the Foundation for the Institute of Oncology Research, BigOmics Analytics, Nuova Genetica Italiana, and Stemgen
The kick-off meeting was the first official opportunity for discussion among partners, stakeholders, and the scientific community to share the project’s objectives, activities, and next steps, launching a cross-border collaboration path that brings together education, research, and business in support of precision oncology.
