Synergy 2026 Programme: Bio4Dreams takes part in BIOVALUE and RNA-LEAP
Bio4Dreams is involved in the Synergy 2026 Programme, promoted by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) to fund highly complex applied and frontier research projects. In particular, Bio4Dreams is participating in two of the funded projects: BIOVALUE and RNA-LEAP, involving leading universities, foundations, and industrial players.
Promoted respectively by the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC) and the National Center for Gene Therapy and Drugs based on RNA Technology, the two projects focus on biodiversity valorization (BIOVALUE) and the development of innovative RNA-based therapies (RNA-LEAP).
The Synergy 2026 Programme
Promoted by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR), the Synergy 2026 Programme is a national funding initiative for National Research Centres, designed to strengthen collaboration between academia, research, and industry by leveraging the expertise and infrastructure developed under Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
Through the Synergy Grant 2026 call, €48 million were awarded to 10 projects to support the development of innovative solutions and the valorization of scientific results, fostering their potential industrial and entrepreneurial applications.
The programme promotes a model in which public research and industry work together from day one, involving national centres, universities, startups, SMEs, and industrial partners from the initial definition of solutions through to their development pathways. Overall, the initiative involves 74 research organizations and 38 companies.
Bio4Dreams’ role
Bio4Dreams’ involvement contributes to strengthening technology transfer activities by complementing researchers’ know-how with the managerial, technical-scientific, and financial expertise needed to turn the development and entrepreneurial valorization of innovative technologies into concrete outcomes.
In particular, Bio4Dreams takes part in BIOVALUE and RNA-LEAP, contributing its expertise in technology transfer, innovative startup incubation, and the valorization of research results, together with its established network of companies, startups, SMEs, and investors.
The supported projects
BIOVALUE: biodiversity as natural capital for quality of life
Promoted by the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC), BIOVALUE aims to transform biodiversity into measurable and valuable natural capital. The project combines ecological data, environmental monitoring, artificial intelligence, simulations, and certification systems to quantify the benefits of ecosystem conservation and regeneration initiatives. This approach can support new business models and the development of the biodiversity credit market (Nature Credits), which in turn can incentivize the protection of natural heritage and contribute to improving people’s quality of life.
A key role in this process will be played by FAST Computing, an innovative startup within the Bio4Dreams network and a spin-off of SISSA in Trieste, which will contribute its know-how and network of collaborations to process large volumes of environmental data, develop predictive simulations, and create digital twins supporting more robust and scalable assessments.
Bio4Dreams will contribute to the industrial and entrepreneurial valorization of the solutions developed, fostering collaborations with companies and investors to accelerate the adoption of new technologies and create new development opportunities beyond the duration of the project.
RNA-LEAP: new perspectives for precision medicine
Promoted by the National Center for Gene Therapy and Drugs based on RNA Technology, RNA-LEAP aims to accelerate the development of innovative RNA-based therapies and diagnostic tools for cardiometabolic, oncological, and neurological diseases. The project integrates scientific and industrial expertise across the entire development pathway, from the identification of therapeutic targets and biomarkers to pharmaceutical formulation and GMP-compliant manufacturing, through to potential clinical applications.
Industrial partners such as Dompé Farmaceutici, Pierrel, and Thena Biotech will contribute their know-how and respective collaboration networks to the pharmaceutical development stages linked to manufacturing processes and to the clinical and industrial valorization of innovative technologies.
Bio4Dreams will contribute through mapping and assessment of scientific assets, targeted in-depth analyses, and entrepreneurial support pathways, with the aim of identifying the technologies with the greatest potential and fostering opportunities for licensing, co-development, industrial collaborations, and the creation of innovative startups.
