Agreenet has launched the Frescometro, an innovative online calculator that allows companies in the food supply chain to quickly and customizably estimate the economic and environmental benefits of using PìFresc^®, a biodegradable label developed by the startup to extend the freshness of fruits and vegetables.

Incubated by Bio4Dreams, Agreenet specializes in developing biomaterials and eco-friendly solutions for preserving fresh products, aiming to reduce food waste throughout the entire fruit and vegetable supply chain.

Frescometro: less waste and more sustainability in 9 steps

The Frescometro guides users through nine simple steps to calculate the impact of PìFresc^®. The process involves inputting information such as:

1. the type of fruit;
2. the annual volume moved;
3. the average selling price;
4. the production technique;
5. the type of containers used;
6. the preservation method;
7. the percentage of inventory losses;
8. the amount of goods rejected by customers;
9. the destination of rejected goods.

Once the steps are completed, the calculator provides data showing the tangible benefits: amount of fruit saved, additional profit, liters of water conserved, and reduction in CO₂ emissions.

Our test: Frescometro results

We tested the Frescometro using strawberries as an example, keeping the default parameters. The results show a significant impact in terms of waste reduction and improved sustainability:
